Radio Silence for NaNoWriMo

I’ve had so much fun talking about what makes protagonists NOT work for me for the past few weeks. I just had to use my last blog post of October to complete my musings on protagonists, so I’m taking this first blog post of November to say that I’m taking the rest of November off.

I tried very hard to get four weeks ahead on my blogging schedule so that I could still have fresh posts for November, but October was so very full that I used my ahead-ness just to keep up on the rest of life. So in November, I’ll be using social media to link to some of my lesser-known posts, or favorites from the past.

Why the lack of posts in November? NaNoWriMo! (Or National Novel-Writing Month.) You “win” by writing 50,000 words in one month. I’m hoping to use it to make a ton of rough draft progress on my current WIP. I’m also hoping it will kick-start a habit I’ve long coveted: waking up at 5:00 am to get uninterrupted time with the Lord and time writing every day, before all the urgencies kick in.

My current strategy is 1) wake up at 5:00 am and try to fly through 1600 words a day, finishing during kids’ naps or after their bedtimes if my fingers/mind aren’t nimble enough… and 2) try to get some babysitters so that I can escape in order to attempt a 10,000 word day (or two)!

If you want to follow my progress, I’ll be updating my NaNo page daily (assuming there’s an update to be had). Please forgive the half-hearted book cover I made in 5 minutes (and most of that 5 minutes was spent looking at fonts) in Canva. And if you’re doing NaNo too, please come be my buddy!

Happy writing!
